Fire from Heaven “I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter that he may abide with you forever.” John 14-16

Pentecost, commonly called Whitsunday

May 27, 2007 A.D.

ABOUT PENTECOST (WHITSUNDAY)

On the feast day of Pentecost, the disciples were all together in a room, talking perhaps of their plans to carry the good news of Jesus to the ends of the world. Suddenly a great wind came roaring around them, filling the house with its sound. It seemed to the disciples as they gazed at one another that each of them was touched by fire. They knew that Jesus was present with them. He came in wind and fire, and they were possessed with His Spirit which so filled them that the cosmopolitan crowd thought them drunk and were astonished to find that they could understand these simple Galileans in their own languages.

MEMORIAL DAY

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in whose hands are the living and the dead; We give thee thanks for all those thy servants who have laid down their lives in the service of our country. Grant to them thy mercy and the light of thy presence, that the good work which thou hast begun in them may be perfected; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord. Amen.

PRAY FOR OUR TROOPS

Our military forces need our prayers more than ever as they continue to serve overseas. Please remember them as they are separated from their families and pray they may be kept safe and be able to come home soon.

BAPTISM OF BABY BOY MIHAIL

Today’s service is an all-important event in the life of baby boy Mihail whose Christian name God willing will be Noah William Mihail. Your prayers are welcomed and greatly appreciated. We welcome his godparent Michael Jay Holmes. Please join us after the service and help celebrate this wonderful occasion.

THE CRYSTAL DARKNESS CAMPAIGN

A community-wide event is taking place on Wednesday, May 30. Most of our local TV stations will block out regular programming at 7:30 p.m. to air the Crystal Darkness documentary. This program launches the Las Vegas Crystal Darkness Campaign, an education initiative being coordinated by the Community Interfaith Council and its partnering agencies. This initiative is intended to inform the community about the dangers and impacts of Crystal Methamphetamine. Methamphetamine use in Nevada is at epidemic proportions and is considered to be a root cause of crime, child abuse, homelessness, and serious health issues.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LILLIE TOMPKINS!

We employ the rich Ceremonial of the historic Church in our worship. While it may seem a bit strange or unnatural to you at first, be patient. The liturgical heritage of the Church WILL speak to you in time, as it has to Christians through the centuries.

Welcome to Saint George’s!
If you are a visitor with us just for today we bid you God speed on your journey. If you are seeking a church home we welcome you into our spiritual family so that you might make good on your Christian duty to “follow Christ, worship God every Sunday in His Church, to work and pray and give for the spread of His kingdom” (BCP, page 291). In either case, be sure to sign the guest book and introduce yourself to us upon the conclusion of the service.

We are part of the Anglican Province of Christ the King–a nationwide body of traditional Anglican Churches which stands for historic Christianity in the Anglican tradition.

OUR BELIEFS are based on the teaching of the Bible and the ancient creeds of the Church. We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer as the basis for our worship.

OUR MISSION is to worship God, serve Jesus Christ, and to bring mankind to Jesus and His Church by : (1) proclaiming biblical truth through Catholic order as it is embodied in the historic Book of Common Prayer; (2) preaching God’s Word and administrating His Holy Sacraments; (3) showing the love of Christ by reaching out to others through works of charity; and (4) upholding Christian family values and teaching the Christian faith and New Testament morality to our children.

OUR GOALS are: to grow in understanding of and participation in the corporate worship services of the Church, to reach Holy Scripture daily and to love God and our neighbor more fully.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN are especially welcomed, as our Church School stands ready to equip you and your children for living the Christian life. Sunday school instruction and nursery are provided during the 10:30 am Sunday service.
