Nativity of St. John the Baptist SUMMER HOURS BEGIN JULY 1ST The Summer Mass schedule begins next Sunday, July 1st and continues through September 2nd. Mass will be offered at 9:00 am. We will return to the old schedule of two Masses held at 8:00 am & 10:30 on September 9th. SPECIAL SIX WEEK SUNDAY SCHOOL PROGRAM STARTS JULY 8 During this Summer, the Sunday School students will study a special curriculum. They will learn about King David’s early life, the Psalms, typical life in the desert, customs and food of the people. Please encourage all students to attend this special program. If you have any questions, please contact Laura Seibert or Kim Jones. THANKS TO ALL WHO WORKED SO TIRELESSLY TO MAKE THE SYNOD SUCCESSFUL.
Many thanks to the “Cast of Thousands” who worked so tirelessly to make the Synod a success. Without you, it would not have been such a memorable time for our guests. OUR BEAUTIFUL NEW ALTAR TABERNACLE The tabernacle hearkens back to Moses and the Israelites who traveled with the Ark of the Covenant for forty years in the desert. Since the early Church the tabernacle has housed the Blessed Sacrament on the Altar, where it is kept in reserve and administered by the Priest. The engravings on the doors of this tabernacle represent the two cherubim who sat on either side of the Mercy seat of the Ark of the Covenant of the Israelites. A parishioner generously gave this tabernacle as a memorial gift. BABBS THE WONDER DOG -AYG FRISBEE FUNDRAISER On Sunday, July 1st, Babbs will demonstrate her Frisbee catching prowess to show her support for the Youth Group. Babbs is an honorary member of AYG and wants to help her pals get to Summer Camp. Please be here for this fund raising event to be held after the 9:00 am Sunday Mass. Babbs will have ten attempts to catch the frisbee. For each catch she would like everyone to donate a dollar or more. A sign up sheet is located on the table at the back of the church. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED “Service” is a very important and wonderful way to give back to God and our church. Coffee Hour is very important for fellowship and for welcoming new members into the parish. Oft times it might be the only opportunity for our parish family to socialize and for visitors and new members to meet us. Sign up sheets are located on the back table or contact Suzanne Winters at 204-8730. As our Lord said, “It is more blessed to give, than to receive.” THE NATIVITY OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST St. John the Baptist was born 6 months before Christ in a village in Judea. His mother, Elizabeth, was well past child bearing age and could not believe the angel’s word when he announced that she would have the child she longed for. John the Baptist was the forerunner of Christ fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah that there would be someone calling out for repentance and making the way ready for the Messiah. (Isaiah, Chapter 40)

While it may seem a bit strange or unnatural to you at first, be patient. The liturgical heritage of the Church WILL speak to you in time, as it has to Christians through the centuries. Welcome to Saint George’s! If you are a visitor with us just for today we bid you God speed on your journey. If you are seeking a church home we welcome you into our spiritual family so that you might make good on your Christian duty to “follow Christ, worship God every Sunday in His Church, to work and pray and give for the spread of His kingdom” (BCP, page 291). In either case, be sure to sign the guest book and introduce yourself to us upon the conclusion of the service. We are part of the Anglican Province of Christ the King–a nationwide body of traditional Episcopal Churches which stands for historic Christianity in the Anglican tradition. OUR BELIEFS are based on the teaching of the Bible and the ancient creeds of the Church. We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer as the basis for our worship. OUR MISSION is to worship God, serve Jesus Christ, and to bring mankind to Jesus and His Church by : (1) proclaiming biblical truth through Catholic order as it is embodied in the historic Book of Common Prayer; (2) preaching God’s Word and administrating His Holy Sacraments; (3) showing the love of Christ by reaching out to others through works of charity; and (4) upholding Christian family values and teaching the Christian faith and New Testament morality to our children. OUR GOALS are: to grow in understanding of and participation in the corporate worship services of the Church, to reach Holy Scripture daily and to love God and our neighbor more fully. FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN are especially welcomed, as our Church School stands ready to equip you and your children for living the Christian life. Sunday school instruction and nursery are provided during the 10:30 am Sunday service.
