“In their presence he was transfigured.” (St. Mark 9:2)

Feast of the Transfiguration (Transferred)
(Commemoration of the Ninth Sunday after Trinity)

August 5, 2007 A.D.

BEFORE THE MASS

We encourage you to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to Mass to give ourselves a chance to settle in and leave the stress and drama in our life at the front door. Prayer and contemplation slow down our breathing and quiet our minds, making us aware of being in the presence of God. He often comes to us in a small quiet voice and we must be ready to take advantage of this special moment.

A Prayer of Faith I come to Thee, dear Lord, like the Apostles, saying, increase my faith. Give me a firm and lively faith in Thy real presence on the altar. Give me the faith of the beloved disciple to recognize Thee and say, it is the Lord! Give me the faith of Peter to confess Thee and say, Thou are Christ, the Son of the living God! Give me the faith of Thomas, who in the end believed and said, My Lord and my God! Give me the faith of all Thy Saints to whom this Sacrament has been heaven on earth. In every Communion, at every Mass, and at every visit to Thee in this Sacrament, make me to increase in faith and love, and all good things will come to me. O dearest Lord, increase my faith. Amen.

CONTACT INFORMATION DURING FATHER HINES’ ABSENCE

Please call Father Greer if you need to speak with a priest while Father Hines is out of town. Father Greer will check messages at the church phone number which is (702) 395-4576 or you may call him at home (702) 258-4333.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CHILDREN WILL STAY WITH THEIR FAMILIES DURING AND AFTER HOLY COMMUNION

Last Sunday the teachers brought the Sunday School children into church to sit with their families and receive their Holy Communion blessing. The purpose is to allow the children to go to the altar with their family and to allow the teachers time to clean up the Sunday School rooms during the conclusion of the Mass. The plan worked well and we will continue this change on future Sundays. Please keep the children with you in church until the service ends.

ALTAR FLOWERS

The 2007 flower chart is available for sign up. During the Summer months, there are many Sundays when no flowers have been requested. The chart can be found on the bulletin board in the back hall along with information about ordering flowers.

SUMMER TRAVELERS

If you would like to have prayers said for you during your travels this summer, please fill out a prayer request slip with the dates of your travel and you will be remembered and prayed for during that time.

$100 A-MONTH-CLUB PROGRAM

The $100 A-Month-Club donation program provides funds to support our national seminary, St. Joseph of Arimethea. A large donation box and information flyers are located on the table at the back of the church. If you wish to make a donation by check, note “Seminary” on the check and your donation will be recorded on your annual statement. Thank you for recognizing the importance in supporting our national seminary.

We employ the rich Ceremonial of the historic Church in our worship. While it may seem a bit strange or unnatural to you at first, be patient. The liturgical heritage of the Church WILL speak to you in time, as it has to Christians through the centuries.

Welcome to Saint George’s!

If you are a visitor with us just for today we bid you God speed on your journey. If you are seeking a church home we welcome you into our spiritual family so that you might make good on your Christian duty to “follow Christ, worship God every Sunday in His Church, to work and pray and give for the spread of His kingdom” (BCP, page 291). In either case, be sure to sign the guest book and introduce yourself to us upon the conclusion of the service.

We are part of the Anglican Province of Christ the King–a nationwide body of traditional Episcopal Churches which stands for historic Christianity in the Anglican tradition.

OUR BELIEFS are based on the teaching of the Bible and the ancient creeds of the Church. We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer as the basis for our worship.

OUR MISSION is to worship God, serve Jesus Christ, and to bring mankind to Jesus and His Church by : (1) proclaiming biblical truth through Catholic order as it is embodied in the historic Book of Common Prayer; (2) preaching God’s Word and administrating His Holy Sacraments; (3) showing the love of Christ by reaching out to others through works of charity; and (4) upholding Christian family values and teaching the Christian faith and New Testament morality to our children.

OUR GOALS are: to grow in understanding of and participation in the corporate worship services of the Church, to read Holy Scripture daily and to love God and our neighbor more fully.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN are especially welcomed, as our Church School stands ready to equip you and your children for living the Christian life. Sunday school instruction and nursery are provided during the 10:30 am Sunday service.
