LABOR DAY -A HOLIDAY TO GIVE THANKS TO GOD

Our true rest comes from our service to God. We know He rested on the 7th day, not that He needed rest, but that He could look upon that which He created and see that it was very good. For us, when we pause from our labors, we are reminded that we are co-creators with God. Our lives are meant to be a sacrifice to God, and when we offer everything to Him, every task can become imbued with dignity and purpose.

WHAT IS THE PREFACE IN THE MASS? (‘praefation’ -‘opening speech’) “The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. Lift up your hearts...Angels and Archangels, and with the whole...”

“This portion of the Mass has been around since the Early Church. As we approach the climax of our worship (which is the Canon), the Preface is a prayer which initiates the sacrificial part of the Mass. In this prayer we “lift up our hearts”: in this our attention is being drawn evermore Heaven-ward as we seek to bring ourselves and our sacrifice unto God. In a mystical way we are being “lifted up” -the portal between Heaven and earth, once closed by sin, has been forever re-opened due to Christ’s Sacrifice and now we have access to it (Epistle to the Hebrews). At the Mass we can say that “heaven comes down to earth, and earth reaches up to heaven.” By Fr. John Hines+

We employ the rich Ceremonial of the historic Church in our worship. While it may seem a bit strange or unnatural to you at first, be patient. The liturgical heritage of the Church WILL speak to you in time, as it has to Christians through the centuries.

Welcome to Saint George’s!

If you are a visitor with us just for today we bid you God speed on your journey. If you are seeking a church home we welcome you into our spiritual family so that you might make good on your Christian duty to “follow Christ, worship God every Sunday in His Church, to work and pray and give for the spread of His kingdom” (BCP, page 291). In either case, be sure to sign the guest book and introduce yourself to us upon the conclusion of the service.

We are part of the Anglican Province of Christ the King–a nationwide body of traditional Episcopal Churches which stands for historic Christianity in the Anglican tradition.

OUR BELIEFS are based on the teaching of the Bible and the ancient creeds of the Church. We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer as the basis for our worship.

OUR MISSION is to worship God, serve Jesus Christ, and to bring mankind to Jesus and His Church by : (1) proclaiming biblical truth through Catholic order as it is embodied in the historic Book of Common Prayer; (2) preaching God’s Word and administrating His Holy Sacraments; (3) showing the love of Christ by reaching out to others through works of charity; and (4) upholding Christian family values and teaching the Christian faith and New Testament morality to our children.

OUR GOALS are: to grow in understanding of and participation in the corporate worship services of the Church, to read Holy Scripture daily and to love God and our neighbor more fully.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN are especially welcomed, as our Church School stands ready to equip you and your children for living the Christian life. Sunday school instruction and nursery are provided during the 10:30 am Sunday service.
