WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE CANDLES AT WORSHIP SERVICES?

Light is something that most people take so much for granted, that we hardly give it a second thought. Nowadays most of our houses are lit by electricity, but not long ago people relied on gas, oil and candle power for artificial light.

The need is fundamental. There can be no life without light. It will come as no surprise, then, to learn that images of light and darkness recur throughout the Bible.

Almost the first thing that we read in the Old Testament (Genesis 1:2) is that in the beginning “The earth was without form and void, and darkness was on the face of the deep.” The very first action of God in creation was to say, “Let there be light’; and there was light and God saw that the light was good.” (Genesis 1:3)

In the New Testament too, light is a key image. The Gospel according to St. John describes our Lord as “the light.” Not the light created by God, but the Creator Himself! Our Lord, too, uses the image of light to teach His disciples, when He says that we should shine as lights exposed on hilltops, and not hide our faith under buckets. -from, What we do in Church and Why! We employ the rich Ceremonial of the historic Church in our worship. While it may seem a bit strange or unnatural to you at first, be patient. The liturgical heritage of the Church WILL speak to you in time, as it has to Christians through the centuries.

Welcome to Saint George’s!

If you are a visitor with us just for today we bid you God speed on your journey. If you are seeking a church home we welcome you into our spiritual family so that you might make good on your Christian duty to “follow Christ, worship God every Sunday in His Church, to work and pray and give for the spread of His kingdom” (BCP, page 291). In either case, be sure to sign the guest book and introduce yourself to us upon the conclusion of the service.

We are part of the Anglican Province of Christ the King–a nationwide body of traditional Episcopal Churches which stands for historic Christianity in the Anglican tradition.

OUR BELIEFS are based on the teaching of the Bible and the ancient creeds of the Church. We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer as the basis for our worship.

OUR MISSION is to worship God, serve Jesus Christ, and to bring mankind to Jesus and His Church by : (1) proclaiming biblical truth through Catholic order as it is embodied in the historic Book of Common Prayer; (2) preaching God’s Word and administrating His Holy Sacraments; (3) showing the love of Christ by reaching out to others through works of charity; and (4) upholding Christian family values and teaching the Christian faith and New Testament morality to our children.

OUR GOALS are: to grow in understanding of and participation in the corporate worship services of the Church, to read Holy Scripture daily and to love God and our neighbor more fully.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN are especially welcomed, as our Church School stands ready to equip you and your children for living the Christian life. Sunday school instruction and nursery are provided during the 10:30 am Sunday service.
