The Baptism of Christ In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, and saying, “Repent The First Sunday in Advent HAPPY NEW YEAR!Yes, the Church begins its year today. Advent is the great season of looking forward. We prepare for Christ’s birth at Christmas; we proclaim His future ministry as did John the Baptist; and we watch expectantly for His second coming. Advent is the beginning, the preparation for the Christian Year. Advent applies the brakes to our hectic observance of the secular holidays which threaten to overwhelm the purpose of the Season. Advent culminates on Christ Mass Eve. Advent (Coming) is essentially a little Lent with a similar penitential tone. As Lent prepares us for the glories of Easter, Advent prepares us for the glories of Christ’s Mass. BAPTISM TODAYToday’s service is an all-important event in the life of baby boy Jimenez. He will be baptized during the Mass today. He is the son of proud parents David and Cheryl. His godparents are Daniel Jimenez and Lindsay King. Your prayers are welcomed and greatly appreciated. While it may seem a bit strange or unnatural to you at first, be patient. The liturgical heritage of the Church WILL speak to you in time, as it has to Christians through the centuries .Welcome to Saint George’s!If you are a visitor with us just for today we bid you God speed on your journey. If you are seeking a church home we welcome you into our spiritual family so that you might make good on your Christian duty to “follow Christ, worship God every Sunday in His Church, to work and pray and give for the spread of His kingdom” (BCP, page 291). In either case, be sure to sign the guest book and introduce yourself to us upon the conclusion of the service. We are part of the Anglican Province of Christ the King–a nationwide body of traditional Episcopal Churches which stands for historic Christianity in the Anglican tradition. OUR BELIEFS are based on the teaching of the Bible and the ancient creeds of the Church. We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer as the basis for our worship. OUR MISSION is to worship God, serve Jesus Christ, and to bring mankind to Jesus and His Church by : (1) proclaiming biblical truth through Catholic order as it is embodied in the historic Book of Common Prayer; (2) preaching God’s Word and administrating His Holy Sacraments; (3) showing the love of Christ by reaching out to others through works of charity; and (4) upholding Christian family values and teaching the Christian faith and New Testament morality to our children. OUR GOALS are: to grow in understanding of and participation in the corporate worship services of the Church, to read Holy Scripture daily and to love God and our neighbor more fully. FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN are especially welcomed, as our Church School stands ready to equip you and your children for living the Christian life. Sunday school instruction and nursery are provided during the 10:30 am Sunday service. Church Address: 7676 West Gilmore, Las Vegas, NV 89129 Diocese of the Southwestern StatesThe Rt. Rev.
