The Second Sunday in Advent
December 9, 2007 A.D.

ADVENT SEASON

Advent is the great season of looking forward. We prepare for Christ’s birth at Christmas; we proclaim His future ministry as did John the Baptist; and we watch expectantly for His second coming. Advent is the beginning, the preparation for the Christian Year. Advent applies the brakes to our hectic observance of the secular holidays which threaten to overwhelm the purpose of the Season. Advent culminates on Christ Mass Eve. Advent (Coming) is essentially a little Lent with a similar penitential tone. As Lent prepares us for the glories of Easter, Advent prepares us for the glories of Christ’s Mass.

CONFESSION TIMES DURING ADVENT

Fr. Hines will be available to hear confessions on these days: Saturday, Dec. 15th & 23rd , 2:30-3:30 pm. We have to ready ourselves to meet Christ, the King of Kings and the Prayer Book helps us in that endeavor, with the Exhortations reminding us of the benefits of making your private confession to a priest. Fr. Hines & Fr. Greer are available to hear confession by appointment, if the scheduled times are not convenient.

TIME OF RE-COMMITMENT

On Sunday, Nov. 18th we celebrated Commitment Sunday and acknowledged with thanksgiving all of God’s gifts to us. For those of you who weren’t here or who have not yet made your commitment, pledge cards are available on the table in the back of the chapel. Please fill them out and place them in the offering plates. You may also mail them to the church address. Today is the deadline for submitting your pledge card.

We employ the rich Ceremonial of the historic Church in our worship. While it may seem a bit strange or unnatural to you at first, be patient. The liturgical heritage of the Church WILL speak to you in time, as it has to Christians through the centuries.

Welcome to Saint George’s!

If you are a visitor with us just for today we bid you God speed on your journey. If you are seeking a church home we welcome you into our spiritual family so that you might make good on your Christian duty to “follow Christ, worship God every Sunday in His Church, to work and pray and give for the spread of His kingdom” (BCP, page 291). In either case, be sure to sign the guest book and introduce yourself to us upon the conclusion of the service.

We are part of the Anglican Province of Christ the King–a nationwide body of traditional Episcopal Churches which stands for historic Christianity in the Anglican tradition.

OUR BELIEFS are based on the teaching of the Bible and the ancient creeds of the Church. We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer as the basis for our worship.

OUR MISSION is to worship God, serve Jesus Christ, and to bring mankind to Jesus and His Church by : (1) proclaiming biblical truth through Catholic order as it is embodied in the historic Book of Common Prayer; (2) preaching God’s Word and administrating His Holy Sacraments; (3) showing the love of Christ by reaching out to others through works of charity; and (4) upholding Christian family values and teaching the Christian faith and New Testament morality to our children.

OUR GOALS are: to grow in understanding of and participation in the corporate worship services of the Church, to read Holy Scripture daily and to love God and our neighbor more fully.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN are especially welcomed, as our Church School stands ready to equip you and your children for living the Christian life. Sunday school instruction and nursery are provided during the 10:30 am Sunday service.
