St. George’s 1998 Christmas Pageant

The Fourth Sunday in Advent
December 23, 2007 A.D.

CHRISTMAS PAGEANT TODAY

To remind us of what the true meaning of Christmas is all about, our Sunday School children will present their annual Christmas Pageant following today’s 10:30 am Mass. They have spent many weeks preparing and are very excited. I hope everyone will stay and support their efforts; light refreshments will be offered at the conclusion of the Pageant.

FIRST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT -DECEMBER 1998

The cover of the bulletin today features a photograph of the cast of the first Christmas pageant, held after Mass at McMillan Elementary School in the days when St. George Church met on Sunday mornings in the school cafeteria. The cast includes Lauren Drummond as Mary, Eddie Davis as Joseph, Anthony Viacava as the Shepherd, Holly Myer and Gabrielle Baca as Angels. The sheep include Nicholas Douglas, Ian Davis and Matthew Seibert (held by proud grandmother, Martha Murray). The scenery which we are still using today was designed and constructed by Marie and Fred Cummings. An 8x10 photo of the cast is on display today during coffee hour.

FATHER GREER’S CLASS WILL RESUME IN JANUARY

Judith Greer’s mother, Ruth, passed away last Wednesday. Father Greer and Judith were able to be with her during her last days. They will return to St George’s after Christmas. Father Greer will resume his class on Anglicanism in January. The date of the next class will be announced in the bulletin.

CHRISTMAS BASKETS RAFFLE

Congratulations to Rosemary Dehn who won the adult Christmas basket and to Donna Foust who won the children’s basket.

ADVENT COLLECT

There is a spiritual world which penetrates our human world bombarding us with influences both good and bad. The choice rests upon us to make alliance with one or the other. Using the means which God gives us, we develop an increasing sensitiveness to the powers of light and a stronger resistance to those of darkness. As we acquire an affinity for the right, God’s messengers find more ready entrance into our lives. We learn the significance of St. Paul’s advice -“put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the Devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against power, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” In the Eucharistic offering, “with Angels and Archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify Thy glorious Name.” We know our own needs, and in unison with the faithful we raise the Advent petition, “give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness.”

Excerpt from FAITH and PRACTICE, Chapter: The Spiritual World by Frank E. Wilson).

Welcome to Saint George’s!

If you are a visitor with us just for today we bid you God speed on your journey. If you are seeking a church home we welcome you into our spiritual family so that you might make good on your Christian duty to “follow Christ, worship God every Sunday in His Church, to work and pray and give for the spread of His kingdom” (BCP, page 291). In either case, be sure to sign the guest book and introduce yourself to us upon the conclusion of the service.

We are part of the Anglican Province of Christ the King–a nationwide body of traditional Episcopal Churches which stands for historic Christianity in the Anglican tradition. OUR BELIEFS are based on the teaching of the Bible and the ancient creeds of the Church. We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer as the basis for our worship.

OUR MISSION is to worship God, serve Jesus Christ, and to bring mankind to Jesus and His Church by : (1) proclaiming biblical truth through Catholic order as it is embodied in the historic Book of Common Prayer; (2) preaching God’s Word and administrating His Holy Sacraments; (3) showing the love of Christ by reaching out to others through works of charity; and (4) upholding Christian family values and teaching the Christian faith and New Testament morality to our children.

OUR GOALS are: to grow in understanding of and participation in the corporate worship services of the Church, to read Holy Scripture daily and to love God and our neighbor more fully.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN are especially welcomed, as our Church School stands ready to equip you and your children for living the Christian life. Sunday school instruction and nursery are provided during the 10:30 am Sunday service.
