St George's Anglican Church
A Traditional Episcopal 1928 Prayer Book Parish

EPIPHANY SUNDAY
January 6, 2008 A.D.

EPIPHANY PARTY TODAY

Today we will have our third annual Epiphany party. Because it’s our third year, we can see that this is becoming a tradition. The Church knows all about the importance of traditions which help reinforce the meaning and joy of Christ’s life and how His life won our salvation. Traditions give us a sense of peace, of order, of stability and security; rituals give us a sense of wholeness. In addition to all that, our Epiphany party will be fun with refreshments and an Epiphany cake, gifts from Father Hines to the Sunday School kids, and a Pinata filled with candy.

ST. ANNE’S ACW MEETING ON SAT., JAN. 12, at 10:30 AM

We hope all will attend this important meeting as ACW officers will be elected and final plans for the Mardi Gras Party will be discussed.

GET AWAY TO GET TOGETHER -FEBRUARY 1-3, 2008

Everyone had a wonderful time last year, so join others from our parish and sister congregations for a time of worship, fellowship, education, rest and enjoyment of God’s creation at the Little America Hotel in Flagstaff, AZ. The cost for the meeting is $45 for adults, $25 for children ages 7-11. This cost covers a sack lunch on Saturday, brunch at the hotel on Sunday and helps pay for our meeting space and materials. There is a no-host dinner Saturday evening and breakfasts are on your own (each room has a small refrigerator and coffee maker). Christ Church has reserved a block of deluxe rooms at the Little America Hotel and Resort at the rate of $79 per night, and some suites are available. Reservations required by January 16th . There is a flyer on the table. For more information, please call Father Steven Dart 602-996-4886.

COFFEE HOUR VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED

“Service” is a very important and wonderful way to give back to God and our church. It doesn’t require any donation of money, simply a donation of your time. One area that very much needs volunteers right now is for Coffee Hour. Coffee Hour is very important for fellowship and for welcoming new members into the parish. Oft times it might be the only opportunity for our parish family to socialize with one another. And for visitors and new members it makes a wonderful first impression of what we are all about. Sign up sheets are located on the back table. As our Lord said, “It is more blessed to give, than to receive.”

TITHE ENVELOPES

Individual tithe envelope boxes have been ordered. We will let you know when they are available.

2008 FLOWER CHART

The 2008 flower chart is posted in the back hall. Right now you have plenty of opportunities to memorialize a loved one, but please hurry because the chart fills up quickly.

We employ the rich Ceremonial of the historic Church in our worship. While it may seem a bit strange or unnatural to you at first, be patient. The liturgical heritage of the Church WILL speak to you in time, as it has to Christians through the centuries.

Welcome to Saint George’s!

If you are a visitor with us just for today we bid you God speed on your journey. If you are seeking a church home we welcome you into our spiritual family so that you might make good on your Christian duty to “follow Christ, worship God every Sunday in His Church, to work and pray and give for the spread of His kingdom” (BCP, page 291). In either case, be sure to sign the guest book and introduce yourself to us upon the conclusion of the service.

We are part of the Anglican Province of Christ the King–a nationwide body of traditional Episcopal Churches which stands for historic Christianity in the Anglican tradition.

OUR BELIEFS are based on the teaching of the Bible and the ancient creeds of the Church. We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer as the basis for our worship.

OUR MISSION is to worship God, serve Jesus Christ, and to bring mankind to Jesus and His Church by : (1) proclaiming biblical truth through Catholic order as it is embodied in the historic Book of Common Prayer; (2) preaching God’s Word and administrating His Holy Sacraments; (3) showing the love of Christ by reaching out to others through works of charity; and (4) upholding Christian family values and teaching the Christian faith and New Testament morality to our children.

OUR GOALS are: to grow in understanding of and participation in the corporate worship services of the Church, to read Holy Scripture daily and to love God and our neighbor more fully.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN are especially welcomed, as our Church School stands ready to equip you and your children for living the Christian life. Sunday school instruction and nursery are provided during the 10:30 am Sunday service.
