The First Sunday in Lent

February 10, 2008 A.D.

LENTEN MITE BOXES

The Lenten Mite Boxes are available on the table at the back of the church. The traditional spiritual exercises of Lent are prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. The Mite Box deals with the latter two. These boxes will be collected on Easter Day and blessed on the following Sunday. All the money will go to benefit St. Joseph of Arimathea Anglican Theological Seminary.

A WONDERFUL MEMORIAL GIFT -THE NEW ALTAR

John Holmes, has given us a new Altar, in loving memory of his wife, Bette. This beautiful handcrafted Altar is made of solid oak with a granite top. This lovely gift is meant to be a permanent Altar and will be moved to the new building to serve in the side chapel or as the High Altar.

SPECIAL COFFEE HOUR TODAY

St. Anne’s Guild is offering a special Valentine’s Appreciation Day coffee hour today after both services. The ACW wants everyone to know how much your participation in various fund raising events last year is appreciated.

DEVELOPMENT FUND LOAN REDUCTION FUND DRIVE

The Development Fund Loan must be paid off August of this year. We’ve made good progress from fundraising events put on by the Vestry, ACW and AYG Youth Group as well as from individual donations. As of today, we owe $14,731.51. The Vestry is asking everyone to make contributions on Sundays to pay off the remainder of the loan. This will be separate from what you give for your tithe. We hope everyone will participate, whether it is a penny or a dollar, or several dollars, whatever you can afford. There are special envelopes in the pews so that we can keep track of these special donations, as they will not be included as part of the regular church operating budget.

We employ the rich Ceremonial of the historic Church in our worship. While it may seem a bit strange or unnatural to you at first, be patient. The liturgical heritage of the Church WILL speak to you in time, as it has to Christians through the centuries.

The PROPER POSTURE for worship is simply expressed. We sit to learn, (sermon, etc.) and stand to praise (singing & hearing the Gospel read). To pray, we either kneel or stand, but we do not sit unless we are enfeebled.

Welcome to Saint George’s!

If you are a visitor with us just for today we bid you God speed on your journey. If you are seeking a church home we welcome you into our spiritual family so that you might make good on your Christian duty to “follow Christ, worship God every Sunday in His Church, to work and pray and give for the spread of His kingdom” (BCP, page 291). In either case, be sure to sign the guest book and introduce yourself to us upon the conclusion of the service.

We are part of the Anglican Province of Christ the King–a nationwide body of traditional Episcopal Churches which stands for historic Christianity in the Anglican tradition.

OUR BELIEFS are based on the teaching of the Bible and the ancient creeds of the Church. We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer as the basis for our worship.

OUR MISSION is to worship God, serve Jesus Christ, and to bring mankind to Jesus and His Church by : (1) proclaiming biblical truth through Catholic order as it is embodied in the historic Book of Common Prayer; (2) preaching God’s Word and administrating His Holy Sacraments; (3) showing the love of Christ by reaching out to others through works of charity; and (4) upholding Christian family values and teaching the Christian faith and New Testament morality to our children.

OUR GOALS are: to grow in understanding of and participation in the corporate worship services of the Church, to read Holy Scripture daily and to love God and our neighbor more fully.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN are especially welcomed, as our Church School stands ready to equip you and your children for living the Christian life. Sunday school instruction and nursery are provided during the 10:30 am Sunday service.
