THE THIRD SUNDAY AFTER EASTER

April 13, 2008 A.D.

ST. GEORGE’S DAY NEXT SUNDAY - APRIL 20

Next Sunday we honor our patron saint, St. George. We look forward to enjoying this celebration with an elegant luncheon prepared by St. Anne’s Guild. In this day and age role models are greatly needed and St. George was a devout Christian who gave his life for the Faith. We will auction cakes baked by men of the parish. Luncheon tickets are $5.00 per adult, $3.00 per child ages 5-11 (children under 5 are free). The purchase of a lunch ticket includes a raffle ticket.

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORIES & PENS

2008 pocket-size Membership Directories including a pen with St. George’s Church name are available for sale today. The price is $5.00 per copy and the entire amount is donated to help reduce St. George’s loan.

YOUTH GROUP OUTING

Ben Stein’s film Expelled makes a powerful case for “Intelligent Design” in explaining the origins of life and the creation of the universe. It also exposes an entrenched Darwinist establishment in academia that suffocates all competing points of view. The documentary will be opening nationwide on Friday, April 18. Locally it will be playing at the Suncoast, Texas Station, and Red Rock Station among other theaters. The AYG is organizing an outing. If you are interested in attending with us, please speak with Father Hines. th

MUSIC LIBRARIAN NEEDED

A volunteer is needed to assist John Riley and the choir on Wednesday afternoons. We have two volunteers already, but a third person would help spread the responsibility especially during the approaching vacation months.

SCOTTISH FESTIVAL AND HIGHLAND GAMES

The Las Vegas Celtic Society sponsors the Scottish Festival April 19-20 at Floyd Lamb Park. If you are interested, please see the flyer posted on the hallway bulletin board.

We employ the rich Ceremonial of the historic Church in our worship. While it may seem a bit strange or unnatural to you at first, be patient. The liturgical heritage of the Church WILL speak to you in time, as it has to Christians through the centuries.

Welcome to Saint George’s_

If you are a visitor with us just for today we bid you God speed on your journey. If you are seeking a church home we welcome you into our spiritual family so that you might make good on your Christian duty to “follow Christ, worship God every Sunday in His Church, to work and pray and give for the spread of His kingdom” (BCP, page 291). In either case, be sure to sign the guest book and introduce yourself to us upon the conclusion of the service.

We are part of the Anglican Province of Christ the King–a nationwide body of traditional Episcopal Churches which stands for historic Christianity in the Anglican tradition.

OUR BELIEFS are based on the teaching of the Bible and the ancient creeds of the Church. We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer as the basis for our worship.

OUR MISSION is to worship God, serve Jesus Christ, and to bring mankind to Jesus and His Church by : (1) proclaiming biblical truth through Catholic order as it is embodied in the historic Book of Common Prayer; (2) preaching God’s Word and administrating His Holy Sacraments; (3) showing the love of Christ by reaching out to others through works of charity; and (4) upholding Christian family values and teaching the Christian faith and New Testament morality to our children.

OUR GOALS are: to grow in understanding of and participation in the corporate worship services of the Church, to read Holy Scripture daily and to love God and our neighbor more fully.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN are especially welcomed, as our Church School stands ready to equip you and your children for living the Christian life. Sunday school instruction and nursery are provided during the 10:30 am Sunday service.
