St George's Day

PEEL OF BELLS TODAY ARE FROM THE PRIORY CHURCH OF ST. GEORGE, DUNSTER, SOMERSET

The peel of bells that you heard as you  entered  the chapel is a gift given by Edward Ward in celebration of St. George’s Day.  We thank him for the purchase of this electronic device.  It adds to the solemnity of our worship and will be used on Sundays to announce the beginning of Mass.

DEDICATION OF SHIELD OF ST. GEORGE SOCIETY

Today, following the announcements, Archbishop Provence will formally launch the Shield of St. George Society.  The Society honors with gratitude those parishioners and friends who choose to support the ongoing work of  the Church by including St. George’s Church in their estate plans.   Charter Members are Alan E. & Dr. Avis Ericson Adams, Alice M. Beard, Jeffrey D. Field, The Rev. Dr. Yates & Judith Greer, The Rev. Gordon W. Hines, Carrie Ellen Holmes, John B. Holmes,  Martha L. Murray, Sandi Nolan, Edward J. Ward, William Welter.

ARCHBISHOP VISITATION & ST. GEORGE’S DAY WARRIORS’ LUNCH, TODAY
Click here for more information about Archbishop Provence

Please join us after Mass for St. George’s Day WARRIORS’ LUNCH.  A hearty barbecue will be served at $10.00 per person for those who are 12 years old and older.  Cakes baked by the men of St. George’s will be auctioned after lunch.

PLANTING AND BLESSING OF ST. GEORGE’S DAY ROSE BUSH

After today’s Mass and prior to our Warrior’s lunch, Archbishop Provence will bless a rose bush in celebration of St. George’s Day.  This marks a new tradition for our parish family.  Anglican Churches who bear the name of St. George customarily plant a rose bush on their patronal feast day.  We thank Edward Ward for offering this year’s rose bush.

ANGEL PARK GOLF PUTTING TOURNAMENT –NEXT  SUNDAY, MAY 3RD

Lunch will be served on the Church patio for all parishioners who wish to stay.  Following lunch, the golfers will drive to Angel Park Golf Course.  No golfing skills are required and it is fun for the entire family.   Ticket prices (including lunch) are $12.00 per adult and $8.00 per child.  We hope everyone will consider a generous donation to help reduce St. George’s mortgage.  If you plan to play golf, please sign up on the list at the back of the church.

WEST SIDE STORY AT SPRING MOUNTAIN RANCH - JULY 25, 2009

Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 25th.  Mike and Kathy McKeag are hosting a barbecue at Spring Mountain Ranch followed by the musical, West Side Story.  Tickets, including dinner and the show are $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for children 12 and under.  Since there will be a heavy public demand for this show, we need to know how many will attend no later than May 1st.  A sign up sheet is located at the back of the chapel.  All profit from the evening goes towards mortgage principle reduction.

 ANTHEM

Choir:     When I survey the Wondrous Cross

Isaac Watts/Gilbert M. Martin, based on a tune by Lowell Mason.

When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of glory died,

My richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, save in the death of Christ, my God!

All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to his blood.

See from his head, his hands, his feet, sorrow and love flow mingling down!

Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine, that were a present far too small;

Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all!  Amen!
