SECOND SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY

VESTRY MEETING TODAY

The Vestry meets today after the 10:30 am service in the church offices.

THANKS TO JAN PATRIDGE AND KIM JONES

Many thanks to Jan Patridge who provided the wonderful Epiphany cake and ice cream last Sunday and to Kim Jones who organized the piñata party for the Sunday School. Everyone had a great time and Charlie Magruder won a gift certificate for finding the baby Jesus in the cake. Many thanks also go to everyone who donated clothing for homeless teens. Your donations are very much appreciated.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY BEGINS, FRIDAY—FEBRUARY 5

A new women’s Lenten Bible Study begins Friday, February 5th, 7:00-9:00 pm. The study is Beth Moore’s “Breaking Free: Making Liberty in Christ a Reality in Life.” Beth uses Scripture that draw parallels between the captive Israelites and today’s believers. You will identify spiritual strongholds in your life and will progress on the journey toward greater freedom in Christ. The workbook for this course is $14.95 and will be ordered by Janie Brown. In order to know the number of people who wish to attend and who need workbooks, a sign-up sheet is located on the table at the back of the Church.

MARDI GRAS TIME—FEBRUARY 13TH at 6:00 PM

The ACW sponsors this wonderful social event at the home of Jack and Jerry Bates. Please mark your calendars for one of the best parties of the year!

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, OR THE DECALOGUE

1. “Thou shalt have none other gods but me.” 2. “Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven image, …. Thou shalt not bow down to them, nor worship them;…”

Comment: Other gods are idols. The commandment against graven images is a commandment against idolatry. Idolatry is, by definition, to worship the creation rather than the creator (Romans 1:25). While we do not tend to carve wooden statues and bow down before them, we do make idols out of created things. What are our possible idols? Money, various possessions and pleasures, or whatever things cause us to neglect our duty to God and our neighbor.

FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY! Please support our ongoing food drive. The Food Bin is in the hallway. Donations are given to Catholic Charities.
