TODAY’S INSTRUCTION ON THE FAITH: Why all the fancy robes?

BANNS OF MARRIAGE:
I, Fr. Gordon Hines, publish the Banns of Marriage between myself, Gordon William Hines, of Las Vegas, and Carmela Jo Baker of Las Vegas. If any of you know cause, or just impediment, why these two persons should not be joined together in holy Matrimony, you are to declare it. This is the second time of asking.

Father Hines & Carmela will be married by Bishop Donald Ashman on Saturday, October 1st at 11:00 am at Church of Our Saviour and Holy Apostles in Los Angeles. All friends and parishioners of St. George’s are welcome to attend.

FR. JOHN LESCALLETT TO VISIT ST GEORGE’S OCT 1ST & 2ND
Fr. John LesCallett will visit St. George’s parish to cover Fr. Hines’ absence on Oct. 1st & 2nd, as Fr. Hines and Carmela will be receiving the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. Fr. LesCallett of the Church of the Atonement, Fountain Hills, AZ, will officiate at the annual parish family Blessing of the Animals service in celebration of the Feast of St. Francis. On Sunday, the following day, he will celebrate at both Masses and speak on the topic of stewardship, launching the parish’s annual stewardship campaign.

ACOLYTE TRAINING –CONTINUES TODAY
Acolyte training continues today, September 18 between 8:00 and 10:30 services. We need both young men and adults to strengthen the current core of acolytes that serve St. George’s on Sundays and Wednesdays. All novices need to be confirmed before actually serving at the altar. The training consists of approximately 6-8 weeks of study followed by 3 months of hands-on and 2-3 months of assisting at the altar under the tutelage of the acolyte trainer (Rick Cummings) or acolyte warden (John Pelham). All parishioners are welcome to attend the first part of the training to better understand why we do the things we do. Y’all come.

DISCUSSION GROUP
Next Wednesday, 9/21/16, a group discussion will continue on the book: The Elements of the Spiritual Life by Anglican author Frederic Harton. It is an inspiring handbook on the Christian life, guiding the reader to a deepened faith and practice; “For growth beyond formal religion, one must get right ideas about God and must know how He may be known and approached, loved and adored. Our strongest motive in pressing forward must be desire for God Himself, and secondary only to this a humble longing to promote His glory and serve His kingdom.” Books are available at $10. Sign-up sheet is located on the patio. The discussions are led by Kathy Ruud and Fr. Hines.

STEWARDSHIP: THE BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1, 10:00 AM TO 2:00 PM
This is a Congregational Stewardship Event. Everyone should take an active role for we are all Stewards of God’s bounty. There are sign-up papers on the Stewardship Table on the patio suggesting many ministries available. New and different flyers are on the table. These are for advertising only. Everyone take as many as you think you can distribute. Suggestions of places to place them are also on the Stewardship Patio Table. Our youth and their friends are encouraged to participate also. With God’s help let’s make this St. Francis Day Celebration the most joyful and rewarding experience in town. It will take everyone to prayerfully commit to God’s call for you. Thank you.
