The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

Starts: December 23, 2012 at 5:00 PM
Ends: December 23, 2012 at 9:00 PM

The Festival of Nine Lessons and CarolsOn 23 December 2012 at 5 p.m. the choir of St.George’s Anglican Church will present A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols led by our Music Director, Thom Greathouse. The choir has been working on carols for months in preparation for this beautiful service.

The first Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was held in England on Christmas Eve in 1918. Since 1919 the service has always begun with the hymn ‘Once in Royal David’s City’.

In keeping with tradition, we will do the same. In 2011, Walt Stony, Organist, and Daniel Smith, Tenor, contributed their talents to the beauty of our 9 Lessons service.

This year, in addition to the two of them, we will have four professional singers who will further enrich our music.

We encourage you to bring your family, friends, and neighbors and join us as we hear the Christ Child’s story in words and music., Each year many talented and hard-working people behind the scenes have made our Christmas services, our Nine Lessons and Carols Festival, and our Sunday School Pageant memorable. As we look forward to the 2012 Christmas season, we ask for volunteers willing to donate their time and energy to assist in this year’s preparation.

We need help in decorating the church. In addition, for the reception following the 9 Lessons service, we need volunteers who will set up tables and chairs; decorate the tables, prepare food, and clean up.

If you wish to offer your services, please contact Fr. Hines+ or Judith Greer.
