DIOCESAN FUNDRAISING EFFORT FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

The Diocesan Anglican Church Women are raising funds for victims of the recent disaster in Houston.  They are supporting Americares which is a health-focused relief organization.  If you wish to contribute, please make your check payable to St. George’s Church and mark it clearly as “Hurricane Relief.”  Our ACW will assemble the gifts and mail a check to the Diocesan Office.

HOUSTON FLOOD VICTIMS – “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” Galations 6:2
A Houston organization is collecting new underwear for distribution to those affected by Hurricane Harvey.  Today is the last day to collect new, packaged underwear.  Kim Jones will mail the donations this week.  It is not too late to donate.  If you donate financially, Kim will purchase an assortment and mail send your gifts to Undies for Everyone.

READING THE BIBLE FOR TRANSFORMATION – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17,  9:15-10:15 AM
Join us Sunday mornings in September for a three-week class – Reading Scripture for Transformation.  We will explore various methods of reading Scripture, emphasizing a contemplative approach, but also looking at how to do that with discernment. God’s Word is a gift to us that we sometimes neglect to open, and we are invited to receive more than we often do as God offers Himself to us. Instruction offered by Kathy Ruud & Father Hines.

ACW MEETING, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 1:00:  Saturday,
Please  try to attend this meeting as we make final preparations for the Blessing of the Animals on   Saturday, October 7

STUDY OF THE PARABLES OF JESUS – SECOND CLASS, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1:00 – 2:00 PM

A study of the parables of Jesus with guided commentary from Biblical expositor William Barclay’s work, Parables of Jesus. Ann Whitfield leads the study.  The class will focus on studying four parables of Our Lord, one parable each week, if possible.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO?  INSTRUCTION ON THE FAITH – SUNDAYS IN OCTOBER, 9:25—10:15
This class by Fr. Hines offers instruction on the Faith in the Anglican tradition and is open to all parishioners, new members, and enquiring members.  More information to follow.

LITTLE RED WAGON FOOD PANTRY
The suggested donations for September are canned green beans, dry milk, and cereal.  Any donation is greatly appreciated by those in need.  Please contact Fr. Hines if you know of someone who needs help.

QUIET REVERANCE IN CHURCH BEFORE MASS
Please try to maintain quiet in the church before Mass.  The choir rehearses 9:25–10:15 am in church.  After that we ask for quiet for those who wish to pray and prepare themselves before Mass.  The Lord was not “in the wind”….neither “in the earthquake”…neither “in the fire”…but in “a still small voice.” (I Kings 19:11-12). May we hear His voice!
