THE BIBLE SAFARI MEETS TODAY, AUGUST 5, 2018, 9:25 AM—10:15 AM
In Bible Safari, we are continuing our journey through the Book of Hebrews.

The occasion which gave rise to the writing of this book was the danger brought about by the persecution of the early church. Persecution at this point was severe and many of the recipients of this writing were Jewish Christians who, out of great fear, were in danger of abandoning their faith and reverting into Judaism. The writer exhorts them to hold fast to their confession of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

The writer takes the readers back through the whole of the history of the Hebrew people – all the way back to their earliest and most famous ancestors, Abraham and Moses. As they thought very highly of their ancestors, and possessed a strong sense of tradition, this was a powerful argument for the greatness of Jesus – the Messiah toward whom all of their ancestors had been pointing. In all respects, Christ is superior to the prophets, to angels, to Abraham, to Moses, and to Joshua. His covenant is superior; His sacrifice and His promises are superior. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

Please consider joining us. We meet between Masses every Sunday.

ACW MEETING NEXT SATURDAY, AUGUST 11, 1:00 PM AT THE CHURCH
The ACW is developing plans for the Blessing of the Animals and various methods of  fund raising to purchase a new tent for the patio.  All women of the Parish are invited to join us at these meetings.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY, RESUMES, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH
The Women’s Bible Study Group completed their study of “”The Armor of God” on August 2nd and will take a break during the rest of August, returning with a new study on Thursday, September 6th, 2018.  Once again we will be meeting at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 or 2:30 pm, depending on the group’s requirements.  The next study will be “Psalms: A 12-week study” (Knowing the Bible Series).  About the Psalms, J. I. Packer said:  “Psalms teach us how to worship.”  C. S. Lewis said:  The most valuable thing the Psalms do for me is to express the same delight in God which made David dance.”   R. C. Sproul said:  “Whenever I read the psalms, I feel like I am eavesdropping on a saint having a personal conversation with God.”  Please contact Aurore Barrett St. John or Julie Viacava for more information.  We will be ordering the books the week prior to Labor Day. A sign-up sheet for the class is available on the patio.
